About Cendrawasih Bay

Teluk Cendrawasih National Park is located in Teluk Cendrawasih or Cendrawasih Bay, in Papua Barat province. The national park includes Mioswaar island, Nusrowi island, Roon island, Rumberpon island and Yoop island. In the total area 1,453,500 hectares comprising land and pristine water, the national park host abundance biodiversity, includes coral reefs, mangrove, plethora of fishes and terrestrial tropical forest. More than 200 fish species living in Cendrawasih Bay turquois water together with black coral, blue coral and many other coral species. Here are colonies of black coral, blue coral and soft coral. Diving in Cendrawasih Bay we can expect dozens of butterfly fish, uncountable damsel fish and parrotfish. Trumphet triton which getting harder to find, giant clam and cone shell are some marine life to admire too. Divers also often encounter hawksbill turtle, green turtle, leatherback turtle, dugng, coconut crab, dolphin and sharks. However, the spot light of Cendrawasih Bay is the whale shark that seen almost along the year. Whaleshark usually swim in the water of village of Kwatisore nearby Nabire. The plankton eater loves to hover around the fishermen floating platform that filled with small fishes. There are many pictures of whaleshark stealing fishermen fish in Kwatisore.
